I also have a strong memory of finishing Where The Red Fern Grows, but it differs from yours.  The way I remember it, you and Mom were sobbing your way through a tissue box, and I was impatient about the effect the nose-blowing was having on the pace of the story.  I may have thrown in a couple of exhortations to &quot;READ!,&quot; as I often did when Mom paused to figure out how to eliminate not-for-4-year-olds language from other books.

I guess it&#039;s true that empathy is something that has to develop?  I remember being caught off-guard when movies started making me cry.  (I thought that was a reaction particular to you. :))</description>
