I thought for a minute about subscribing to some of these lists to get a broader perspective on the debate. Then I remembered that I'm allergic to email lists. I hope the debate becomes more public now that the ARL report has been published.

Me too. You see some on closed listservs. There's a meta-point to be made here. For good or ill, bloggers are sharers.

I haven't made any comments in either direction personally - but the ones I have seen that were positive (or at least less critical) were also on mailing lists. I'd point to the archives - but they are open to subscribers only.

Thanks, Mark. If you have links to open archives of list messages that you think would help me out, let me know.

I have ... but they are not blog posts, they are postings in a listserv.

I realize that this is a generalization but most people who are non-OCLC employees and agree with the policy are probably not bloggers nor do I assume that they read many blogs. I am not claiming that any of these things are causal in either direction. In fact, I don't believe they are. Nor am I saying that these folks are any less valuable for any of that.

But when looking for specialized information look in the places in which it is most likely to be found. My guess is what you are looking for is not to generally be found in blogs.

But I could also be completely full of it.
